The founding date of the trade union movement at MTW is considered to be June 10, 1946 – then workers at the enterprise were transferred from the professional services of the Central Committee of the Aviation Industry to the professional services of the Central Committee of the Agricultural Engineering Trade Union. At that time, 624 people worked at the plant, of which 402 were union members. The first collective agreement at MTW was adopted on April 7, 1947.
Today, the primary trade union of OJSC «MTW» involves more than 15.8 thousand people, united in 745 groups and 101 shop organizations. In order to quickly resolve issues of salary, ensuring decent conditions in the workplace, compliance with legal norms, and development of the social base, 11 commissions work under the trade union committee of MTW.
The sectoral trade union organization is the Belarusian Trade Union of Industrial Workers «BELPROFMASH».
The main document, for the preparation and enforcement of which the primary trade union organization is responsible, is the collective agreement, which defines the rights and obligations of the workforce and the employer. Currently, the agreement adopted in 2008 is in force at MTW.
According to the document, the contractual employment system in force at the enterprise is maximally adapted to the needs of workers: all advantages are retained, while freedom of employment is ensured. The document also provides for additional payments, medical care, physical education, health and cultural development of employees.
At the same time, the trade union committee is responsible not only for the current employees of MTW, but for the retirees as well. The trade union organization of veterans unites more than 8 thousand non-working pensioners of Minsk Tractor Works, which the company supports both morally and financially.
